We were blessed with a fine day on Sunday and the pool was in constant use all day with a wide variety of boats in action and an everchanging crowd of spectators. So unlike our usual windswept frozen huddle.

The big boat in the middle is Les Breame's amazing coal fired "work in progress" now beginning to look quite respectable and working faultlessly. Clearly been a lot of development work since Winterbourne House.
She's trying to ram a rather nice Hobbies kit built freighter powered by a Mamod marine engine. Mamod Meteor in the background.

A closer view of the Hobbies freighter.

Les guides his coal burner past a modified Mamod Meteor. The twosmaller boats are battery powered half sized "replicas" inspired by  Bowman Swallows.

Maid Marion salutes the passing coal burner.

Wallace and Grommit's River Patrol with the canopy off

Les gets up steam.

Luton Seahawk

Replica Luton Sea Jay built to Basil Harley's plans. One of Les's paddle tugs in the background.

As the day wore on we were joined by recently purchased Pop-Pop boats and their proud owners. Fortunately it was too warm for icebergs

A  very rare bird, a Thierens Firefly. The mechanism is by Mamod but is a modified Minor 1 stationary engine.

Firefly again, owner in the background.

Lee was eventually strongarmed into sailing one of his fleet but sadly not the Gem. I think it ws rthe launch next to Gem but I failed to get a decent photo. It was really good to see a Thierens Firefly in action though and she went very well indeed. Rubs salt into my wounds though as I was beaten to one on ebay by the winner who thought it was something else entirely. Some sellers don't know enough about their offerings.

The trick is bring the kit and get the boat ready AT Tilford. Not for nothing am I called Ethelfred the unready.

I reckon we had at least 25 boats on the pool over the day. Perhaps we need two pools.

Prioritize. How many times a year can you sail a boat?
