Just thought I'd introduce myself by way of a quick hello.

I was a child of the 70s, the golden age of Mamod, and I remember seeing a TE1a in my local Model shop, and wishing my parents could afford to buy me one for a birthday or Christmas present, but knowing that money was always very tight.   I also remember being very envious of a friend who had one but never really ran it. How Frustrating!

I also remember the hours I spent building a whole host of creations with my 1978 Mecanno Set 2 (which I still own), and imagining how good it would be to run them with the Steam Engine (ME1) shown (in black and white!) on the inside cover of Instruction book 2 that came with the set!

So the years went buy, I got into, out of and back into Hornby OO, Scalextric and radio controlled cars but finally fulfilled my childhood dream 5 years ago when I bought and restored my first Mamod,  a boxed 1972 TE1a!

My collection has slowly expanded over the past 5 years and both my sons now also have their own Mamods.   We exhibited our collection for the first time at the Rural Life Centre event at Tilford over the recent Easter weekend, and really enjoyed it.   We are also planning to exhibit at the 2 day Hollycombe model steam event in September.

Sorry I haven't been contributing much since joining but it's been a chaotic  20 months which involved finishing post graduate study, very busy and exhausting shift work and then starting a new and very challenging job, all which have conspired to prevent me from exhibiting anywhere! However, I am now in a post Christmas lull so thought I would take the opportunity to share some general pictures of my Mamod Collection , so here they are.

My Two Meccano Engines, (1x MEC1 and 1x SP3) Mamod Workshop tools, Windmill made from the Meccano Number 2 set I've had since childhood and my Meccano/Erector Ferris Wheel which I got sent over from the States (which I plan to run with the SP3, when I can figure out the best gearing so it doesn't take off!!)

My WS1, SP1,SP2, SP4 and SP5 (the latter being my recent Christmas present from my wife!

My TE1a, SR1a, Open Wagon and Lumber Trailer

My TWK1, SW1 and SA1

And finally, My Minor 1s, Minor 2s and SE2a, Line shaft and workshop components.

All the engines have been purchased second-hand as non-runners and  in various states of disrepair,  so  I have spent many happy hours over the past few years restoring them mechanically to their former glory so they all run well. I undertook a large amount of polishing (and as a result think I am addicted to the smell Brasso!!) but a minimal amount of cosmetic paintwork restoration (and only if it has been  absolutely necessary (removing rust etc)).  They are therefore definitely not cosmetically perfect and I have no intention of making them so,  as I feel the occasional chips here and there add to their character and show they have been loved, used and played with by their former owners over the past decades.

I also have an additional  full set of the apple green/red based  Line shaft and Workshop components, complete with their original yellow, blue and grey boxes, as well as an original apple green Mamod Sutcliffe oil can.
