Interesting news item - but things of course aren't always what they seem. There are other steam railways in Wales who use Welsh coal - WHHR amongst them. Tony Hills' (privately owned) Brecon Mountain Railway has been buying coal from Eastern Europe for years, b****y great slabs you had to smash up before you could use it!
Coal mining is a filthy, unhealthy, desperately dangerous and terrible way to have to earn a living. The South Wales valleys are only just recovering from the blight of coal mining, a mere glitch in the natural history of the area. Open cast needs to be strictly controlled as it's potential for devastation to the environment is immense.
Small users of coal never bought from the mine anyway - they bought from a merchant even if the mine was just down the road!
This is just making up news stories to fill the airtime with a clever bit of free publicity for the BMR (and I don't blame them for that!). _________________ Stephen
