I have a little 51, alas it need a burner. I know Ian loves these engines - when you see the many variations its not hard to know why everyone wants a Mersey! _________________

Its funny, Mersey's are held in such high regard by many, including myself but they are far from being high quality engines. They had some very innovative ideas, the multi cylinder engines are quite superb in their design but like the others in the range their build quality is less than superb.
You find many Mersey boilers that have had their bushes pushed inside, this is due to the poor quality of the soldering, in addition there are 5 known examples of new unfired engines that have end caps that were only soldered part the way round.
Another gripe is the not so Big, big end, many have simply worn out. _________________ www.mfsteam.com the home of the MFTwin and replacement parts for Mamod, Bowman, Hobbies and Cyldon Steam Engines

Funny you should say that Ian, the crankpin on my little 51 has startd to work loose now . . .
That said there is something very distinctive about the plywood based and black gloss paint. _________________

Yes - that's the one I've seen too. The grindstone looks familiar, I wonder if Mersey bought-in like Bowman used to? _________________ Stephen
