Got more boxes of my junk today, found a Mamod/Meccano engine that I had forgotten I had, also my box of old meccano.

The engine is a little tatty, fair bit of rust, but all there bar a burner. Even had a gear, pulley and sproket on the crankshaft.

The Meccano is a strange mix, some nickel, glod and blue light and dark green, blue and yellow, zinc allsorts, also some I repainted when I didnt know better, oh and some copy stuff.

So what better to do than build a crane.

Nothing technical to start with, some plastic gears.

The engine was a corker, I didnt touch it save for a drop of oil, but boy does it go, and so quiet, not the usual Mamod knock.

And as for the crane, though technically the counterweight was my hand, the engine had the power to lift a 2 pint bottle of milk on a straight pull, and a 4 pinter doubled up. And there was loads of guts left in the engine. Nowhere near stalling.

Marvellous. Wife thinks I'm mad!

The MEC1 is a really good performer - a well thought out engine.
