Because they kept breaking down
Title of best diesel ever built surely has to go to the Deltic well thats what I would like to say but the class 37 must take the prize. As useful today as it was 40 years ago.? |
Ill just beg to differ there. _________________

The Westerns were retired nearly 30 years ago, they cant be the best ever made.
I remember reading some where that there serious problems with the matching of the engines to the hydraulic system that meant they struggled to reach their designed top speed. _________________ www.mfsteam.com the home of the MFTwin and replacement parts for Mamod, Bowman, Hobbies and Cyldon Steam Engines

No waiting for a replacement Paxman engine for an HST here.
What engines are they running in the HST these days? _________________ www.mfsteam.com the home of the MFTwin and replacement parts for Mamod, Bowman, Hobbies and Cyldon Steam Engines

Im not sure Ian, I know General Electric were used in 66s and 67s . . .
They are still very much in the land of living down here.
As for the Westerns - I remember them vividly as a kid, I can just remember the class 42 Warships in 71/72 as an 8 year old. _________________

'Leccy since the late 20's down here
The HST's now have 'MTU' 16v4000 engines in them, giving them an extra 450hp. |
