That's a lovely roller, do you have a before (restoration) photo Mike

As my POTD image today in answer to Mikes question. Here is the roller before I fully disassembled it to strip and repaint. The boiler had some sort of textured covering to it! Awful.  This to me is a proper restoration - the engine has been taken back to how it would have looked when it left the Thorns Works back in the late 60s. The word restoration (or god forbid 'resto') is one which is all too often used to describe a quick make over, a modification of some sort. To me it means taking the engine back to how it should have looked, not how someone see its with a coat of new paint. just my thoughts.

This was covered a thread long since posted...

A fully restored Mamod SE2 from 1954-57.

This was a complete strip down and paint, new seals, wicks and a thorough clean... This one remains un-steamed and is kept as a show engine...

On the top shelf...

Piled high just like they were in the old toys shops I remember as a kid.

The blue boxes are extremely rare, rarer than the gold boxes. I believe these were used a 'tests' by printers before the red was settled on the red window boxes from 1965. The blue seemed to be restricted to the SE1 and 2, the gold to the minors. Both blue and gold was dropped in favour of the impactful red cartons.

One to watch out for, they dont come up very often.
