until you are in a  wheel chair  and crippled with arthritis ,on oxygen, and lost your marbles  you can not say it is your last boat to build

I've been experimenting with drive configurations for the MEC1. Space constraints dictate I cannot use the normal flywheel, however this is not driving a heavy Meccano workshop or similar, so I have mounted some pulleys inboard to help give some weight and also act as securing devices to keep the crankshaft inline on the gears/contrates.

My Meccano R&D bench!

One prob make be connecting the shafts to a stern tube prop shaft. Ill investigate Meccano UJs or I may use my normal Hobbies supplied ones and contrive some sort of joint/linkage. Space will be an issues though.

Mounting the pulleys inboard helps with the overall width of the unit, although I will have to cut the crankshaft overhang off.

Shoehorning the MEC1 into the hull of an Arrow is going to be challenging. I really need an extra 10mm in the beam. Will see if Hobbies can supply a bigger piece for the bse, the rest of the plans will need to be adjusted too, not least to deal with the length of the unit. Then there is the tricky problem of balancing the boat... still if I can get a functioning power unit that will be a big start.

Some initial tests with the Arrow 3 currently being built.

The engine unit must still be able to be removed from the hull...

The cylinder overhang presents a little problem. The crankshaft can be cut in order to fit, but the outside cylinder means I have to offseset the engine unit, this means in turn the pinions and contrates will need to be offsest to so the shaft line equally either side of the central line of the hull base.

I gave the MEC1 marine unit a test, it went like stink....

The lamp is a little dodgy on this one, so I reckon with a serviceable one it'll do 15 minutes easily.

Im of the mind horazontal oscillating cylinders work better... bit the the Pinoeers Peggy, this engine steams so well, I cant see the ME1, 2 or 3 approaching this one.

This lamp needs attention!

Videos laters.
