Seeing John's lovely pioneer and taking on board a few comments, I think Ive found the perfect power unit for my 4th and definately last boat!

This:

A well used MEC1 looking for a proper use!

I can just squeeze it into the hulls beam width. Ill need to mount the flywheel inside the engine frame but that should give me just enough room.

Im thinking of twin screw for this one so Ill need contrate gears and pinions...

My Meccano box should yield a few of these.

Im thinking two big contrates on the main shaft, driving small pinions.

What do you think doable or fancyiful?

Aye Mike, I may have to rething the flywheel set up if I use twin screws as the contrate need the width.

Can I make a suggestion Mike? PADDLE STEAMER! The MEC1 is ideal for that Very Happy

Either way, it will turn out very nice I am sure. Why not mount the gearbox seperatley to the engine, that will enable the flywheel to be easily mounted inborard of engine frame.
