As part of a total rethink of my workshops I have rebuilt my two largest, wooden-based shops onto smaller, lighter Meccano chassis types as per my many other of this kind. I am currently building/rebuilding 4 workshops which will form the central part of my STIA offering for 2010.

Today we have the SE1 from around 1967. This engine is in glorious condition, as the lamp will testify, and has been steamed very infrequently.

It is now connected to an all-1950s tooled workshop. ALl these accessories have their original white Mamod boxes which disappeared sometime around 1957. You will note that all the tools (inc the lineshaft) sport the convenient oiling holes which ceased to be incorporated into the castings sometime in the mid 1960s. The early press has an unclipped flywheel and the hammer is a screw fit to the base like the lineshaft which sports a superb early large rectangular decal.

This is a companion workshop to my 1954 SE2 full workshop and a 1970s SE2a full workshop which is is the process of being finished off.

Finally I am including my early 1960s MM2 into a small workshop with a couple of tools. This will bring the total to 10 Meccano based shops which i will photograph together soon. Hope you like the images.

1950s steam toy fun at its best....

I have included a removeable frip tray for oil residue...

The workshop has the option of Meccano chain drive from another engine, as well as an extra Meccano 25mm pulley...

Indeed Mike, a very traditional steam ensemble all together. Love them.

It's great to see a wider range of pullies on the lineshaft Mike. I think too many of us just keep to the standard when that's often too restrictive!

I fitted a longer shaft to suit my SE3 display...

I love thses workshops Stephen, an SE3 one would be nice, by stripping my old workshops i have 3 SE3s doing nearly nothing! As far as other pullies are concered I like to experiment with different drives, band as well as chain, but also different gearings - two words for these set ups - GREAT FUN!

Well if you are at STIA in Feb, I intend to have 2 or 3 running together. Big fun! Laughing

I steamed this little set up today. Ran for approximately 13 minutes. I have shot a few images and videos. Most enjoyable, Ill let the images do the talking...

Note: images are a mixture of full flash/quick shutter and slow flash and long exposures, hence the variance in contrast and colour balance....

Enjoy.
