Yes or No

Bowman SeaJay

It is in lovely condition and one of my very good friends is trying to get me to sail her. I am a bit reluctant as I am not sure what it would do to the hull and its paint work, I know the engine runs beautifully so there is no reason why it would not sail well. What do you think I should do?

That old BM valveless engine is a treat to see . . .

It would sit nicely alongside your Snipe John, we need to find a similar condition Seahawk and Swallow now Laughing

I say sail her.....if only for the very selfish reason that I would love to see her in action. That boat is very much at the top of my "wants" list.....should you ever want to sell her, please let me know! Embarassed  Embarassed

Mot worried about steamer her, i have done that, its the water i am worried about. I think FC sails one and so does GD so they do run.

If FC is me I don't steam a Seajay 'cos I haven't got one (yet?). I do steam a Meteor and my only Luton boat, a Swallow.
Cheers
Fred
See you all at STIA.

Sorry Fred Embarassed
I remember seeing a picture of you launching a model boat and feeling a little surprised that you were sailing such a rarity. It must have been the Meteor then, I am trying to remember where i saw the picture, was it in STEAM?

I was running her at Tilford last year and I think there were some pictures on another forum. Otherwise she only gets a run on the tank test unit at APS.

I must confess to sharing your concerns on this matter.  I have not sailed my Snipe as yet and I, like you, are wary of doing so.  There is the obvious problem of loss/damage, but that can be minimised with care, rather more worrying is the prolonged effect of water on old and rare items.  Maybe Fred's tank at STIA would be the place?  I am not sure either.

Would it be prudent to check the hull for any imperfections? ie cracks which may lead to leaks, checking glued seams etc . . . I would only steam it in fresh water too! If the varnish is good I would see no reason not to give it a go, at least once!

I think the overwhelming response from the membership says Sail it!! Very Happy

Decision Made

I just need to find a suitable venue, I will sail her with my other boat of the period Wink
