Wilesco workshop

I've had a lot of very kind comments on my overhead lineshaft workshop accessory display so I thought it may be interesting to follow the assembly of a new one.

I've collected the following few Wilesco tools...

I never chuck any of the odd & ends left over from DIY tasks so it didn't take long to find a suitable piece of board. In this case, a piece of laminated chipboard from a shelf project. This material is great because it's heavy and flat! To make it presentable however, it needs a bit of trimming. This was provided by a bit of 'hockey-stick' and some plain stripwood.

This was simply screwed to the edges

And there's the finished article

Ready for the tools to be fixed

Unfortunately, I've run out of drive band so when the order arrives I'll test it, then maybe a video (gosh, I can almost hear the gasps of expectation and excitment!).

looks cool Smile

lets get the video rolling Very Happy

Gosh! Wink

A very practical arrangement Stephen. Workshops always fascinate me at events, everything gong at once via a network of cables and chains . . .

That planer looks interesting, looking forward to a video  Very Happy

I bet you all thought this was finished didn't you? Well so did I until I stepped back a bit and thought it could do with a back!

So here is the basic backdrop, made out of ply...

I've made a crude cutout for the drive band.

I'll probably frame this opening to tidy it up. The whole thing will be covered in brick paper when I get some!
It would also look quite good with a window and/or door frame.

I've not fixed it in place so the whole thing stores quite well...

This may give a bit of idea of what I have in mind, my D21 and workshop...

Look out for more on this when I get the paper and frames (doll's house shop here I come!)

Just keeping well out of the way. My wife's got the second part of an important job interview tomorrow, so she's been preparing in her study for two days solid!

Must break off now 'cause it's my turn to do the Sunday roast!

Looking good Stephen  Very Happy

Got to the Dolls House shop today, so the build continues...

Got some brick paper and a window and door frame...

Marked out the back wall...

...and cut out the openings...

They fitted!

Next, a bit of bricklaying...

Not finished yet but you get the general effect  think...

The eagle-eyed will notice that the architrave doesn't fit. It's meant to go on the frame not around it, so it's back to the shop for some more!

Ah yes - a little weathering. I've not tried that before. You're right, it'll need it. I'll see what I can do.   Very Happy

Have you any of the paper left? If so stick it down to some scrap wood and practice on that.

I use dry brushing for weathering, get some paint in your brush, brush most of it back into the tin, then lightly apply the paint left on to the surface, apply more where there would be a build up ie corners and joints etc.

If you want rust, get some iron powder, put a smear of PVA glue where you want the rust and sprinkle the powder on. Once it is dry but some vinegar onto it and leave it for a day or two. The vinegar accelerates the oxidising process of the iron powder and gives great real rust Smile

Of course, you can get kits to make the rust but these cost money, iron powder is free if you machine iron or know someone who does Very Happy

Model railway do some great weathering paints/powders . . .

Beautiful work Mike!

I am looking forwards to seeing it finished and in operation.

I am quite envious of the M65!

Done a bit more on the workshop.

Got some architrave around the window, door and drive belt opening...

And a windowboard...

A bit of trim on the top and the corners...

A bit of detail...

Apart from some weathering and a picture or two, it's done...

I've posted a video of it being run by the big Marklin if anyone cares to take a look!
willbur
