Wilesco Roller 'Omon'My Wilesco Roller, which has given me faithful service these pasrt four years, is now in bits for a repaint and modification.
I will be adding a wick meths burner, and hopefully a top up valve and uprated safety valve. I intend for her to look like the maroon Marshall Roller at Amberley, here's a pic:

all the while maintaining that toy steam look.
Today I grit blasted the headstock/smokebox and the front roller surround. The wheels are next.

I think it is, Chris. At the Weald & Downland Museum. The show has only been going for two years or so.

Anyway, getting back on topic I have applied primer to the front roller surround. I hope to get some top coat on it later this evening

Non-existent at the moment, Mike I'll put some up when the maroon is on so you know what it will look like when finished.
I'm going to Brighton ModelWorld next weekend, where I hope to get a gas burner for the roller Yes, you did read that right!

I've applied the first coat of maroon to the front roller retainer, here is the best pic I could get as well as a couple of pics of the sand blasted headstock parts.

You've done a good job with the sand blasting Simon
I can see this is going to be one hell of an engine when finished

I'm looking forward to finishing it, the aim is the 5th April which is the next SMSEG meeting
The prototype is a 15 tonner so I hope the model will be just as impressive

I've just ordered a brass safety valve and chain whistle from Chasteam for the roller. Nickel plated parts just wouldn't look right!

I've sprayed the headstock in matt black (Hammerite BBQ paint to be precise) and it is very rough!
Ah well, I did say it was to be a working engine so that doesn't particularly matter

I've received a couple of orders today, a smokebox door from Steam4Fun and a brass safety valve and a nickel plated chain pull whistle from Chasteam.
I specified a brass whistle in my order but looking at the website only a nickel one is shown. I'm surprised at this seeing as a brass one is supplied with the Locomobile's Oh well, not to worry!

I didn't mention it above, but the new whistle didn't fit the boiler.
I told Chas this, and he supplied me a Wilesco adapter (£5) free of charge and p&p!
Needless to say I am thankful to Chas for this. I will be using him more often now
