WHR Rhyd Ddu - Beddgelert

Whilst in North Wales last weekend on 'my' railway, I took a couple of hours out to ride on the newly re-opened section of the WHR through Beddgelert forest. I took a series of video clips on the camera and having finally got them uploaded on Youtube, I thought I'd share them here as well! Sorry they're all individual, I'd stitch them all together but I can't get Windows Movie Maker to accept the Quicktime format! (Any suggestions will be welcomed!)

That's all folks!

Wonderful, Stephen you want to glue all those clips together!

Super videos Stepen.  A wonderful railway in wonderful scenery.

However I can't help feeling that it is such a shame it has not been "restored" to something more like it originally was.  I'm afraid that to my mind South African Garretts, splendid as they are, are totally out of place in North Wales.

It is also a great pity that the modern history of the WHR has been blighted by the Festiniog Railway Co's attitude and past actions.

ebay your not suposed to mention that Very Happy

I have read about the situation in various publications and I still cant understand why the two groups cant work together. Surely it would be beneficial to both parties.

Its a great achievement and great vids Stephen. I'll get  ride on it one day, hopefully before the kids loose interest.

'tis a good run, nice videos, I'm hopeing to do a video at some point, I currently have one of 143 entering Cutting Mawr from the footpath to start off, it sounds quite good, nice and deep, but not comparable to the Blanche and its new blast pipe departing Penrhyn though!

John, what's imprtant to remember is the WHR has not been 'restored' but built, it is a new railway on the alignment of an old one. The Garratts, make all the sense in the world, because without them you would struggle to haul the sometimes heavy demand, even Russell which appears to be a strong loco wouldn't manage 7 carrs out of Beddgelert.

The situations between WHRL and FRC are bad because some individuals aren't as co-operative as others, but more importantly the WHR is years from completion and even once the track is up to standard and open all the way through, without large amounts of money being spent on the ETS system needed for trains to enter mid-section you cannot run trains out of the WHHR easily because of the (hopefully) temporary Staff & Ticket system used. But the situation can pretty much only improve, but the railway needs finishing and this requires money and skilled manpower.

I'm fully aware of the history of the WHR Billy, I did a short stint as a volunteer back around 1990/91.

I agree it is super to have it running again but as I said I personally don't think the SA garretts look the part in Wales.

But perhaps other members are not, and we wouldn't want them getting the wrong impression, thus why I put "remember" Wink .

Does the sign refer to any particular dog that's famous in the locality?
SillyBilly

Not sure, but I thought it was a nice sign compared to all the horrid plastic ones you usually get.

Full of character but alas not politically correct ........

........it's not bi-lingual.   Laughing
SillyBilly

That is strange for a farm, most of them are Welsh.

What were the passenger loadings like when you went?
silverfoxsteam

There was lots of room!
