All the engines must be toys, no model or home made boilers are allowed, without a certificate. Particularly old or fragile boilers are encourages to be shown as static exhibits, it is at the discretion of the organisers, although I feel a degree of common sense is expected.
big d

do they inspect them there

Not as such, although Im sure something overtly dangerous would catch the organisers eye, especially Mr Crammond . . .  Wink

This is an interesting one, as you know I've made a few engines out of parts, the boilers are constructed to toy steam practice from a new tube with old endcaps, bushes, safety valves etc just like a Mamod, Bowman SEL, et al,

I'd go as far to say I've done a better job, no shoddy soldering, 1/64 tube boiler.

How would I get on with one of these? Or say someone steamed one of Ians Twins?

Ian has had all his twin variations going. I think there is a degree of common sense and expectation from the organisers, essentially all boilers/engines must be/must have been commercially available toys. Exceptions are made I presume at the discretion of the organisers and Im sure your work would easily exceed all safety considerations. Fred and his team are flexible.

One definate no no - clear alcohol - all must dyed stuff. Very Happy

What time is everyone getting there ?

I should be there by 11am - that's if my son and heir can get out of bed early enough to get from Warrington to Leeds by 9am - we'll see, they say miracles happen occasionally.  Laughing

That's a point actually - what time do the doors open?

We open up about 9.00 for the volunteers/workers. Exhibitors should be able to set up from about ten thirty, railways and dealers somewhat earlier as I can sort out the tables for them on the Saturday. Public, at the Space Centre Car Park gate from 1.00. Exhibitors use the Corporation Road gate.
Cheers

Tell me from when I can get in and I'll see what I can do for help Very Happy

Corporation Road entrance will be admitting helpers annd exhibitors from about 9.00am. Railways and Dealers should be able tostart setting up immediately but hoi polloi will have to  wait until we have the big shed cleared, swept and set up. Most of the vehicles are pushed out by hand, the brushing is done by yard brush and all the tables are shifted and erected by hand. There is a lot to be done and the faster it is done the longer we have to play. Of course come evening we have to reverse the whole thing and wait for all the exhhibitors to pack their stuff away first. It can be quite a long day.
But worth it Very Happy
