I seem to remember Johns Wylie Harris had a red base and it was an overytype engine so would have had a relatively tall box? Is it a Wylie Harris?

Indeed, these always seem to be without their feet or the burner, Im of the mind that a flat base suits these engines better than a raised one, great for workshops and Meccano. Nice remnants of a blue oval decal too - bang on period.

On closer inspection that is a pre-1946 decal, they did still turn up on post war models - a very nice finishing touch.
