Waterslide Transfers

I want to get sheet of waterslide transfers printed so I can fit them to my home build and modified engines. All the same design, just with a different date on them say a line of 2007, line of 2008, some 2009 etc.

Can anyone recommend a company that will do this for me?. I've done a google search and most seem to want a minimum run of 25 sheets.

I do not want the faff of making them myself. Nor am I really intrested in the 'how to', quite simply computres bore me, and I do not have the equipment to print etc.

This is the basic design.

Waterslide are the best in some ways, I have experimented with the stuff through hi-res lasers, it works Ok, although the opaque waterslide material is better, the transparent base stuff is too transparent and only works on light surfaces. Printing waterslide decals is a little more expensive, especially if more colours are needed, your would need 2 blues, a black and yellow. I have seen some which were printed very well but let down by the most appallingly rendered artwork - basically if you are going to do it properly the artwork needs to be top notch.  It may be possible to produce several different designs on one sheet, assuming the colours are kept to a minimum, 3 or 4 at most. Im still a great believer in quality laser printed versions onto professional adhesive paper - these are great for baseplates which remain cool, such as Bowman, Luton and some Mamods.

I have tried to make my toy engines in the spirit of the british toy makers, warts and all.

As such I want waterslide transfers, not any form of alternative. I am happy to live with the drawbacks of the real thing. No matter how 'good' the alternatives are supposed to be.

To me a 'british' toy engine has waterslide transfers, end of.

What has an Austin 7 got to do with toy steam. I don't think thats keeping in with the tradition much at all.

Crazy!

Thanks

Steve

Well you see, the geezer in the passenger seat of the Austin 7, and the geezer stoking up the steam roller in both pics is me, the guy who made the engines. Both the austin and roller are mine

Enough of a link you think?

Light lines may be a possibilty, they do custom transfers http://www.locolines.net/custom_sets.htm

In the past I have made some quite acceptable waterslide transfers (for a Bowman) by printing onto white decal paper using a bog standard inkjet printer.  As long as they are varnished before  they are put in water the ink doesn't run.  I also varnished them again when after  they were put on the baseplate of the engine.

Thanks John, I'll give them a try.
