tripleti thought its about time i introduced myself!.i have been collecting model/toy steam for about thirteen years now, allthough i have always had a passion for steam.i am an engineer by trade but gave up working in an engineering factory around two years ago and am now self employed mainly working from home,BIG drop in money but much happier.i am also a keen motorcyclist and currently own a 400cc honda race replica which i go out on most weekends.in addition i play drums in a RnB Dr Feelgood type band.i am involved in the restoration of a textile mill engine along with its two lancashire boilers with the intention of steaming again for the public.oh,and i am a Blackburn Rovers supporter!!!

Is there any real benifit from being a member these days? It certainly did years ago but has it now turned into "club fopr the boys"?

i dont know about these days MF,it is over twenty years since i was last involved.i think it always has been a sort of "club for the boys" in as much as fellow members helping out(financially) any member who was going through a rough patch, usually with there buisiness.but that was what it originally was created for,in as much as it was started(as i understand) by stone masons involved in the building of large buildings such as castles/abbeys etc and if one had an accident and could not work for a while the fellow members would pass around the money pot and raise as much money as they could in order to ensure the injured/ workmate was able to pay his rent and be able to support his family until such time he was ready to return to work.but i think you are correct in thinking that it has turner into an exclusive/elitiest for the more privelidged, giving them alot of "clout" in the local community.

A friend of mine is a Mason but he is so cagey about it, it took him three years to tell me he had joined, then nothing more about it. When I ask him its just " I can't tell you". I suppose that sort of attitude keeps the mystique of the clique but all I can think about when he says that is the Simpons episode with the Stone Cutters!. It makes me laugh every time I see it.

this seems/seemed to happen to most new members, they thought they had entered the temple of immortality!!!!!!!,but having said that you were not supposed to divulge that you were a member, the only sign being in the secret hand shake.i must admit that i couldnt take it seriously and on most occasions thought to myself "what am i doing here"!!!,i dont think that most of the members really approved of me though as i was quite young and looked like a hippie with hair almost down to my waist!!!!!!!!!!!!
