Tram Trouble...

I requatered the wheels and waited for the araldite to cure, after I took it into the wk/shop for a test steaming and well it wasnt too encouraging!! The meths burner had a little leak (nowt serious) but when steam was up the cylinders wouldnt budge.. they turned by hand but not under steam which I found very strange! Then one wheel lost its grip on the axel so had to re do that. I then tried it on the compressor and still no joy.. I dont have a clue what it could be?!

Can you lads shed anymore light on it??

Ive had the engine do a few turns after a lapping and have come to the conclusion

NEED MORE STEAMM!!

So shall experiment with it, more flame less water. Same water more flame etc untill I have it right.

I had it do a few revolutions on the bench but it didnt half prime!

Disconnect the steam line and use the compressor at a really high pressure, if it doesn't budge then take the cylinders off and clean them up.
If the Araldite has failed once it'll always fail, best thing you could do is make some new axles, if need be drill out the wheels a bit, press one on, then spend an hour treble checking that they're quartered right and press the other on.

Quartering - please explain, is this to ensure the correct position for valve timing?

The crank pin in the wheel needs to be set to a quarter of a revolution to the crank pin on the wheelset's other wheel. I think the crank on an SE3 should be set to a quarter, but that need s confirming.

180 degrees or just under or over.

I know they are not cheap but i would highly recommend purchasing the steel upgrade wheels from dreamsteam, they are well worth it, for the peace of mind that the quartering will stay put, that the crank pins wont loosen mid run and the fixed bearings are much better too, its certainly worth considering.
i know what its like trying to get a self build running, any help is a bonus, so if i can help i will try!
cheers

Thanks for that!

ive been umming and arring as wether I should use my uncles lathe to produce some of my own steel wheels...

The quatering seems to have set well now any way so its just getting the bugger to turn under its own steam!!
