TilfordI have had an invite to attend Tilford this year, 22nd March.
Firstly can anyone give me some more info about it, booking, tables etc?
I am thinking about going, subject to some personal business being sorted here. If anyone can fill some of the gaps I would be grateful!

You just turn up, sign in and grab a table. The tables are basically trestles and old doors so I am planning on taking my own this year. They provide a small supply of fuel and that's about it. All very informal, It's not run by a control freak like STIA is. You can choose to be outside or in depending on the weather and your natural optimism.
I can't remember whether there were any chairs provided, probably not. There is a cafe if you forget your sandwiches.
The boat pool is a cracker, much better than STIA.

Went last year, and found it was a great event. Don't think I'll go this year because the family are coming up here, thinking about it, I won't be able to go till 2010 ! 'tis a good show.

As I said, you just turn up. Lots of tables available tho' you might have problems for indoor space if the weather is bad and you don't get there early ehough. It's every man for himself.I was there very early last year and practically arrived with the milk. Weather willing I am hoping to be near the pool this year to avoid abandoning my table when the urge to go boating overwhelms me. Incidentally we hope to have the mark2 pool up and running at APS on April 6th.(Model Engineering & Beam Steam). All welcome (all forums )

It's not that it's not well organised, it's just that they are a lot more relaxed about things than STIA. They've been running it for almost as long and they know what they are doing. Don't let me give the impression that it is a battle for place, more a case of first come first served and if you know where you want to go it's a big help. I found everyone very friendly and helpful ( it's a long way from Lincolnshire ) and thoroughly enjoyed my day there. Might not be so good if it rains.

There's plenty of undercover space, it's just that you have to make a decision whether to be in or out and if everyone wants to be inside...........

What is all this worry about Tilford?
Just go in 4 easy steps:
1 - Get lost on the Farnham Bypass ( ha ha ha).
2 - Turn up with a steam engine.
3 - Enjoy yourself.
4 - Go home.

you would be in trouble if you did not have any water near your engines and tried to run them

What are you worrying about if Fred has said it's easy to get indoor space, and if it's a nice day you'll be able to sit out in the sunshine, perfect, eh?

We on the FfR occasionaly have 'Vintage Weekends' now these events are possibly the best one can go to, in the past I've been involved in helping set up these events and if I remember correctly the weather is normally horrific prior to the event, yet perfect for the event & that's Welsh weather! So if I was you I'd stop worrying about it, and start worrying about what happens when the world ends because that'll kill your precious engines ! Sorry that I'm being straight to the point!

The predicted weather for saturday involves rain and sleet. As I am intending to bring most of the fleet and settle in next to the pool I am seriously considering a visit to Argos tomorrow to acquire one of their rock bottom priced Gazebos. 9'x9'. As my table is approx 6' I hope to be able to offer some spare space to anyone who gets there first . Should take two tables at right angles at a pinch.
I don't suppose they are actually waterproof but it might slow the stuff down a bit
Cheers
