It serves several purposes, it was a loaded test run so it was there "just in case", it provides heat and light for the coaches and also ads to the dead weight being pulled by Tornado. Its useful for stock movement too, there's not many turntables around these days, think Station Pilot.

That is one cracking loco and a super video, thanks for sharing it with us.  If she is going to be painted in LNER green with BR lettering (as in the picture in your post) she is going to look stunning.

Diary of Main Line Tours Tornado

If everything goes to plan Tornado will enter main line passenger service at the end of January 2009.

The first two tours are for covenantors and their guests only, they have to give their covenantor number to book.
 
31st January 2009 - York to Newcastle and return

1st February 2009 - York to Newcastle and return.

These trips do not feature dining options. Departure form York around 1130hrs, Newcastle 1300hrs return is Newcastle 1700hrs and York 1830hrs.

These are the first two main line passenger trips behind Tornado which is why they are limited to covenantors and their guests only.

Standard £69.00, First Class £95.00

7th February 2009 - The Talisman - Darlington to London Kings Cross with Tornado, with return using modern traction. Picks up at Darlington and York only.

Provisional times are:
Darlington 08:30hrs
York 09:30hrs
London 14:00hrs

Return:
London 18:00hrs
York 20:30hrs
Darlington 21:00hrs

Covenantors can book straight away. Members of the public are to be put on a waiting list, taking all details, and these will then be processed on Monday 15th Dec assuming capacity.

Standard £79.50, First Class £119.00 (non dining) and Premier Dining £175.00.

26th February 2009 - The Yorkshire Pullman - Kings Cross to York by Tornado hauling the VSOE British Pullman train.

Only Pullman class available at £449 per person
