The pool at TilfordTilford was very good this year....No Snow despite Richard's presence! I settled into the schoolhouse as it was next to the pool and spent most of the day boating.
A few pictures:-
Colin prepares his Fantail
And sets off his Hobbies
Athene in motion
One of the usual suspects
Dereham Eagle slips past a Dereham Seahawk
Colin Laker gets down to some serious photography. Seahawk, Eagle and Snipe.
From the sublime to the ridiculous, Steam Launch Mabel and Daphinia.
Mamod Meteor and a pair of very pretty launches.
Swallow at full chat. Much faster than the other Dereham boats. Probably due to the excellent burner
Mamod Meteors on patrol. The forward boat being rammed by a river launch.(?Mabel).
Enjoy

Truly wonderful to see, good crowd pullers by the looks of it too.

Id watch the chap in the grey - guilty of having too many nice engines!

Great to see the boats, i think i'm getting me sea legs now
How does the bowman range line up in the speed scales?
Boats are certainly growing on me & hopefully a self build kit is on its way to Isca as we speak (the first hull for the newts fleet)

I reccommend a boat Mike, Im not a collector of them like Fred and Ian, but I have certainly enjoyed making my Arrow and it gives you great scope to incorporate your own touches and modifications into the design. Go for it.
Was there any videos of the boats steaming? No ramming or sinkings this time then?

We had all four running at Tilford. Colin Laker was insistent. The fastest of the lot was Swallow. There are pictures either here or (aaaagh) elsewhere showing her with an impressive bow wave. Eagle was faster than Sea Hawk but this could have been down to burner settings as Seahawk carried on running far longer than Eagle and they share a boiler and burner. It was noticeable that the same effect occured with the two Mamod Meteors with mine again being the reliable slow tortoise.
None of the Bowman boats are as fast as my Peter Pan or I suspect Miss America but they are built on completely different lines. Fatter and heavier. I suspect BJ deliberately went for reliability at the expense of speed but sold them as speedy.
Good luck with the kit, and buy some handwarmers for STIA2010
Fred
PS Does anyone know how to get rid of those bloody silly waves?

Would it be possible Fred at some point to put a layman's guide to Bowman/Hobbies boats in the mobile reference area sometime in the future?

Due to overwhelming popular demand I am posting a few more pictures of the pool
Colin's little "Garage Door Remote" controlled Fantail.
It works well most of the time
With her steel hull and rather basic paint job Daphinia likes to have a go at the more refined river launches
So does Meteor
Colin (Laker) is still trying to get a shot of all four Bowmen together but isn't that Swallow being titivated on the bench?
Gotcha!
Daphinia has a certain aplomb. I think having the exhaust up the funnel helps.
Seahawk's Revenge.
Meteor has another go at a river launch, Fantail waits her moment.

I really hope to have my Arrow runner there maybe next year?
Looks a heap of fun!
PS Surely Ian will burn his fingers grabbing it like that!

And they are off as Eagle receives attention
Swallow needs some rudder trim
There's an imposter
Swallow avoiding trouble
The unguided torpedo about to cause trouble here, just look at that bow wave

You see what good photos you can take when you don't have a boat demanding your attention!

If you closely you can even see the new paint on the bows of the Meteor's, nothing was safe even the sterno fuelled pop pops
