The oldest additin to the FleetSo here we are at my 500th post, to celebrate I thought I would show you some pictures of one of my favourite models in my collection. It was purchased a long time ago at an antique fair. I walked away from it once when I returned to it I saw the remains of the label on the lid and realised what it was , I got it for a very reasonable price but it had been horribly repainted in battleship grey all over, it was complete so I was happy. It remained on top a a wardrobe for a few years. A chance conversation recently with a good friend resulted in the offer of it being restored to its full glory. It has had a complete deck off referb and repaint. Not normally what I would do but there was no original paint left on it. When the hull was stripped back it showed that the original paint had been removed with a blow lamp!.
This and my Sea Jay and a couple of the others in my fleet will be getting their wet feet for the first time at the Toy Boat Regatta on the 6th May. Champaign at the ready
What is it, here are the pics.

Great to see them Ian. I love the burners in these boats, the shape so cool.
Thats a very nice example of the Meteor indeed.

I wish Mamod had fitted a in-line oiler on their other ME engines!

A joy to behold!

Apparently they don't float to well without being balanced with lead weights, my friend will be at the regatta to do the business as it is not something I have done before. Lets hope the snow stays away for this event.

It is being held at the North London Society of Model Engineers site at Colney Heath (St Albans) on 11th May. Not sure if it is open to the public to attend to just view. PM me if you need more details as I have the organisers phone number.

Around 1,500 mark I recall, only 100s for the elctric powered Conquereor.

I'm not sure, Mikes is about right if using the numbers in the bible but how accurate they are I don't know. I have only seen one Conqueror and rumours of two others. There are considerably more Meteors, One or two turn up for sale every year.

Hi,
Very very nice!!
Speak to fred Crammond about steaming it, we played with his at abbey pumping station the other week and it sailed very well. The metal hull makes a lovely hollow puffing sound

Hi guy's
Thanks, Did not expect the warm welcome. Don't really know what to say.
I was with Fred at Leicester sailing stuff, see Fred's last post and pic's of me with the Duck and Swallow among other things.
I've been into steam since being about 7-8 years old - blame the parents - My pride and joy ids a D32, I'm looking at de-cluttering my collection and getting some better quality bits. I like boats and stationaries.
That's all for now folks!!

Better Quality, where do your interests lie, English, American,European steam engines or a little of everything?
|
H20

Hi
Good question, I think a little of everything!!
I Mainly like English, but I also like the top end German stuff. I get a bit frustrated with the low end German stuff it's just to tinny.
I like a couple of the very big Jenson, but that's it across the pond.
What I really like is something that comes along that is well made, I get pleasure form that. I like model engineering, I have a couple of smaller engines, from way before the current popularity.
I think the best way to sum my preferences up is that when something unusual, of good engineering quality comes along that appeals I may be interested. I also appreciate good design. The right materials and size of materials that give a weight and proportion to a project are important.

My Arrow (STILL under construction ) is a slimmed down version powered by a 1958 ME1 . . .
Its a little narrower in the beam.

That looks good Mike. How much have you slimmed her down by? I have the Arrow plans and have been contemplating them from time to time but to me the hull design seems a bit too chunky and heavy. Your version looks rather more elegant.

By about 1.5"
Bear in mind the image there does not have the hull sides in position.
