The new Mamod locoPrior to the event everyone was all hyped up about the new Mamod loco, but it seems no video yet? I've seen photos, and it deffinatley needs much more than a Dremel to make it look atleast presentable, perhaps it's because it's horrificly ugly, or is it just because it doens't work very well?
One thing I will say, is that the wheelsets are very nice, they've got the old style casting pressed on axles rather than punched on, if these went in the old loco and they sold them as spares I think they could do quite well.

The prototype supplied to Forest Classic's wasn't completed in time to steam. Well done Mamod Thats why there is no video

That's a shame, I hope for their sake that it works REALLY well out of the box, because with those looks it needs to.

I didn't think it was ugly. If it is a good runner then it is a very good value for money loco.

The bodywork, the dome, the smokebox, the lining, the bufferbeams.
I do agree it'll be good value for money if it works well out of the box, but it's still hideous.

The dome is a tempoary job just sat on there at the show and Phil is on to Mamod about the lining as he agrees it isn't to good

I'm hoping that the boiler is the same diameter as the old one, it'd be good if you could just slip an MSS smokeboxe with the bottom hacked off on it.

not really in to Mamod locos but after seening the protoype of the new one wont mind one at all !

For the money... if it runs and doesn't instantly fall to bits it is already several times better than an MSS.
Throw in the fact it has a gas burner and regulator that makes it getting on for £100 cheaper too (if these are additions you were planning on making).
Of course, if it doesn't run, and/or falls to bits then it is just as shoddy as an MSS and I will return to my theory that the best thing to do is buy an old mamod that looks as if it has been well used as at least then you know you have a runner.

i dont think it can as i think the boile is like williams and the chimney is just riveted on, and the smokeobx space is infact part of the boiler.

Well you could still hack the chimney off, and have an MSS somkebox there.
