stuart turner v 10Hi all im new here and i am looking for some help?
I buy and sell antiques in my spare time and yesterday i bought this Stuart Turner V 10 engine .
Can anyone tell me if it was made by Stuart Turner or if it was a sold kit model .
Also can anyone tell me what it might be worth on the market place , and if it is worth cleaning and how to go about cleaning it.
Many thanks
Andy

Welcome to Freesteam Andy.
The engine looks nice and clean, well presented. I'm pretty sure t would have been in kit form as new. Stuarts are not my realm so I wouldn't like to guess a value. Nowadays these things are worth whatever any individual buyer will pay at the time!

I think they're still made, check out Stuart's website for the prices new? http://www.stuartmodels.com/
I'll give you a tenner for it if you like (50% profit - not to be sniffed at ).
I really must get to some car boot sales if this is the sort of stuff you can find - retirement may actually become a reality!!

Thanks again Stephen, Without bragging too much I do have a good eye for stuff, I have studied antiques since school 30 years ago and in the last two years i would say i have made more at going car boot sales than i have working 5 days a week .
I have 6 children and a huge mortgage thats the only reason i have'nt gave up work , But ?
Now i think its time to go for it .You would be amazed to see what i have picked up at the car boots , I have turned £2.50 into £1800 before and £40 into £1200 , Last week: Large victorian jewellery box, rosewood with inlay
How much i asked £4 reply . I then open it to reveal full victorian contents from a late aunt . How much i asked ? Another £4 she replied .
I posted pictures of a rare scottish agate bracelet to sothebys along with a brooch . They replied £700 to £1000 at auction .
There is still 60 other items in the box inc: pencil stanhope miniture paintings etc: Oh and not forgeting the key .
So Steve get yourself to the car boots mate !
Sorry if this has borred anyone

Its difficult to say Andy, the castings cost around £75, but its the build hours you pay for
You would have to check ebay out for a average price

Yes I have been looking but there is nothing to compare it with there are other stuart turner engines but not one the same
Cheers

I have a few 10V's saved in my ebay
This one made £72
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAP...RK:MEWAX:IT&item=190311600545
This one made £135
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAP...RK:MEWAX:IT&item=250433393556
Some make more money, it depends on the quality of finish, and the quality of the photograph, and timing of the auction

I'd agree, it's the quality of the finish that counts but anywhere from £130 - £185 for a really good one seems to be the ebay price. A new set of castings is £95 and I'd say yours is not a factory built one so I very much doubt it's anywhere near £400. The fly wheel doesn't look right me, weren't they always spoked?

thanks mate , I have'nt seen a fly wheel like my one on any steam engine
