Steam Toy Rally, Tilford 2009

Best get the oar in early I suppose!

The annual toy steam show held at the Rural Life Centre is being held on April the 11th next year.

As per usual I shall be going, it'll be my fifth year there Smile

Let us hope that it doesn't snow again Laughing

Who else is up for going?

Last year I took most of the fleet. Not only did it snow but there was no pool. I suppose it saved me getting frostbite.
I hope to be there next year, Grandparental duties permitting.

Tilford is VERY possible and so is Dorset but the rest are still in the air but so long as i can do my toy steam ones and my two local rallies I will be pleased Very Happy

I shall be there again, this is a really splendid show which started five or six years ago when the Flowing Spring pub at Sonning was taken under new management and the Burnham Historical Rally people had to find a new venue for their show, hence we all started going to Tilford.
MTA

Look forward to seeing you there, then Very Happy
Chris

Wife has just put it in the diary, so now it is very likely we will be there.  Very Happy

I'm in the process of mobilising the Fleet for Tilford on Saturday and am in two minds whether to bring the brazier to thaw me out or the gazebo to keep the snow off. If I bring both there will be no room in the car for the boats. Any ideas gentlemen? Very Happy

Are we playing "Meteor Wars" this year?
fcrammond

I should have four Mamod powered boats this year including Meteor so perhaps we could have races. I understand Colin Laker is hoping to arrange a mini Bowman Rally as well so things could be quite interesting if the snow keeps off. I have a very bad track record for snow.

Incidentally, did you see the SeaJay hull on ebay? I tried but failed as indeed with the 1914 Meccano engine. My wife was much relieved as the attic floor is beginning to sag already.

I stuck £400 on the Meccano but was soon out bid  Confused

Yes but like you I was out bid, I was going to make it into a SeaHawk
fcrammond

The guy that pipped me to the meccano was the one who paid 1200 for the Star "Comet" so I guess I really didn't stand a chance. Out of my league really. My gameplan for Seajay involved butchering a pw301 but it would have looked OK from the outside! I was rather tickled by the statement that" a square hole had been cut in the hull ready for installation of the engine" Presumably the great heavy engine unit would have been jacked up from below in some manner and then the riveters called in to repair the hull. I had visions of a Peggy power unit sitting in that hull, but it went way over my budget.

As all ways
made-in-england

*in mr.burns voice* Excellent
Chris

Think I will bring a couple of engines and get in for free (nothing fancy just a luton bowman and an SR1a).  Is meths and/or solid fuel provided or do we need to bring our own?  I'm assuming they provide water!

See you tomorrow.
Spokesmann

Make sure you all take some pics!

When you 'sign in' (so they can tally up how many engines were present) they give you a box of solid fuel, and you can pick up 'Britvic orange juice' sized bottles of meths.

They always have an urn on the go in the old school building for water Wink
Chris

Cheers for the info simon.  Very Happy
