sp3 help

Got my sp3 the other day ,so i thought i would give her ,her first run .
Meths burner flaming boiler ,boilering ! Turned the lever no go  Sad .Iam getting pleaty of pressure no leaks on the boiler ,So it should run !?
When i got the engine it looks like it hasnt been run for a long time .Not really up on mamods .Help !  Embarassed

If there are no obvious leaks, check the piston/cylinder move freely, also check the ports are not blocked or the steam pipe blocked. Check the flywheel/crankshaft is not too tight or that the trunnion bolt/spring are loose enough for easy movement, but tight enough for steam not to leak out. Give everything a good lubrication too.

Its not an SP3 but an MEC1. They were made between 1965 and 1976.

Im getting rid of my SPs, Ill keep my SP5 and SP3, but my SP2 and SP1 have gone, Im concentrating on early Mamod as well as Bowman and English steam engines from now on.

Look forward to seeing it go. The Meccano engines are very lively performers with a very versatile design.

Sp2 which ones that?
Spokesmann

Don't be too hard on the early SP engines MamodCollector.  As Mike has said the 'Old' SP5 is a GREAT engine Wink

I wasn't a fan until recently Very Happy I like the early engines too of course, but I've revised my opinion of the early SP range.
Spokesmann

The older SP engine were properly thought out and designed by a proper designer, the latterday stuff such as the new SP5 and SP6 are merely reworked Malins stuff, poorly executed in my view, that said they do run well, if, in the case of my new SP5 rather messily!
