Shoenner overtype steam engine

Hello,

I recently inherited a Shoenner overtype steam engine from my great grandfather. I remember this thing from my childhood, and had asked family members if it still exsisted. At my surprise, it was. Sitting in a garage.
All that was left was the boiler & fire box. It looked like someone had disassembled it to maybe clean it? Anyway, I now have it and started cleaning it up, it is missing pretty much everything from the top of it. The whistle is there, as well as a couple valves that seem to be working. I have been told it is extremely hard to get parts for it as it is so old. I really would like to restore it if I can find the parts. I'm looking for any information, and parts if anyone can help. Am I able to use parts from a different make/model? Any info would be much appreciated.

Hello tsp
And welcome to the forum
Your steam engine should probably look something
Like this when complete
So as you can see you still need a few bits for yours
If I where you I would look through German ebay
For derelict engines, and use the parts from those to rebuild yours

Mike can you move this post to the
"The 3Rs... Restoration, renovation and refurbishment" thread please

If this engine was inherited, what was it recently on ebay?

Not sure if any of these parts will fit your overtype
But it does show that spare parts do turn up
These are in the UK, and listed in "Penny toys"
So they may stay cheapish  Smile

Hi tsp,
This seems to be a Schoenner 107 dating from early 1900. You can search for the auction 360054919255 on eBay and you will find an example of one of the bigger variants of your machine. You will normally find the smaller versions of this engine on eBay in complete and "played with" state from around 250€ and up. The sizes of this machine goes from a base plate size of 16x11 cm up to 32x17 cm.

Have to be a bit careful. These pats are what's left of a Marklin engine. But, I agree, may be worth getting if they stay low. Smile

This engine has never been on Ebay...I just received it the first week of june. It was buried in a relative's garage for the past 30 years. Just disappointed that it wasn't complete.

How are you going with your search for spare parts tsp
Have you managed to find any ?
tsp2224

I am waiting for a reply from the relative that I got it from. We are hoping there is a box stored away, maybe overlooked, where the removed parts were stored. Haven't had any luck as far as spare parts though. Currently watching Ebay.UK, Germany, USA, for parts.

Shoenner restoration progress

I have disassembled the entire engine, and started cleaning up all brass fixtures. Everything is functional. Working on the Boiler, then the Fire Box & Base.
