SE3 Grubscrew (Help needed please Guys) SORTED

Whilst I was re-assembling the flywheel asssembly on my SE3, one side of the machined slot on the grubscrew (the one that secures the crank to the spindle) decided to part company.  Shocked
Can any of you Guys point me in the right direction regarding thread size and a possible source for obtaining a replacement at all ?

Thanks in advance.

I can tell you the size, thread dimentions are alway a mystery to me... but I not sure if a Meccano grub screw might fit...

Are these 1/8" whitworth? Mamod used them an awful lot, most unhelpful in today's metric culture Very Happy

Have you managed to get the old one out Jon?

I'll have a look at my SE3 but it'll be tomorrow I'm afraid!

Stephen, the old one should come out without a problem, I'm leaving it "as is" until I've sourced a replacement.

Right Jon - the grubscrew is 6ba x 3/16" long.

What I've done in the past in similar situations is to replace the grubscrew with a cheesehead screw cut down to the right length as necessary. Not as neat, true, but functional and stronger. I've loads of 3/8" screws and you're welcome to a few if you want. Just say the word.

If you're going through a bit of a 'purist' phase, then Reeves supply 6ba x 1/4" socket (Allen recess) grubscrews in packs of 10. This is the link...

Happy screwing (Er - can I say that admin?)  Laughing

Stephen,
Thanks for the information regarding the correct size and also for the generous offer of some 6ba screws should I require them.

My first intention is to try our local industrial fastener suppliers first, should I fail then I may well take you up on your offer.

Again, thankyou.

Sorted now, had a word with the machinist at work and he had a sift through the shelves in our machine shop and he came up with a whole host of possibillities for a fit and I eventually came across this, 6BA and perfect length wise. Thanks for the info Stephen.

Glad it's sorted Jon - and a socket head will make it easy to remove next time!
