SE2 Whistle

I have an SE2 with the brass whistle. Well they call it a whistle but mine don't it just hisses.  Sad Should it give a distinct whistle or are they all like that.  Question I have cleaned it out by running a small drill bit from the boiler end just using my fingers but it makes no difference.  Confused The red paint work could do with renewing, what paint should I use? It's a very dark red BTW.

So what paint would I need to use inside the funnel then? I would assume high temp paint of some sort.

Ordinary enamel (Humbrol) - it's worked well for me!

My whistles mostly 'whistle'! Are you over filling the boiler Les? They tend to sound better the drier the steam.

Thanks for the advice re the paint, I thought the heat might peel the paint off but as it happens I do have some Humbrol enamel here. Re the whistle, yeah I have tried it after the boilers used up a lot of the water but it still tends to hiss rather than whistle.   Rolling Eyes

I have found that by tweaking the angle of the whistle lever I can in fact get my whistle to whistle. Full on is past the point of whistle and all it really needs is closing a bit more.  Rolling Eyes
