Removing wicks

Is there a best way to remove the old wick from the twin tube burner on my  pw203 bowman ?  I thought of drilling from the end of each tube inward but guess the wick which is in the meths reservoir would remain there for all time??
Cheers Sandy.

The end caps should unscrew...

Yes i have the caps off, but meant how to you then "grab" the wick and withdraw the whole old length of wick!!

I would try a very small needle-nose and if it breaks apart, dig it out with a pick.

An old metal coat hanger with a point or hook on the end, primus prickers work well. If you have one, the tool for getting crab meat out of the claws is a good bet.

Let me know what works for you, because I need to replace mine too.

Ahhh, the old wicks were so solid , i ended up unsoldering both burner tubes from the reservoir and firing a drill gently through them.!!  thanks for all the help.

They must have been solid! Shocked

I could never have got all the old one out especially the inch or so which was inside the meths reservoir.  this type with small cross slits on the tube seems a bit akward .

Glad it's sorted Sandy.

In my limited experience of this type of burner they seem to work well as the meths vaporises but they are difficult to light and a real pain in the a*** when it comes to changing wicks.  I like the open slot style burners a la Bowman.

Or Latimer L5 types! Wink  Laughing

Easy enough to change the wicks, they are just a bit over the top.   Wink

For those who aren't familiar with the L5 it has a huge twin wick burner that is really far to big.  One half the size would be fine.
