RE: SE3 water level plughi all, my se3 level plug is no longer sealing!!!!!!!!! should these have an insert for the plug to screw into as mine doesn,t just a brass plug with a 3/16 thread on it that goes direct into the end cap, is this correct or at some point in its life has it lost the insert? also which plug should it have? any help and advice appriciated.

mine just threads directly into the endcap . Have you got a fibre washer on the plug ??.
There is no bushing .
There is a Possibility your thread in the endcap is stuffed .You may need to make a bush with the thread for the level screw and ream the hole out to accept the bush and solder it in place then you can screw the plug back in. Or the other alternative is to make a slightly larger plug and ream out hole in endplate and rethread with next size thread up .

The Mamod overflow plug is a standard spare that can be bought from good toy steam stockists, the shape will be a bit different ie bent arms instead of the SE3 flat type, it will work none the less though! All plugs should have a fibre washer for extra seal too like Dennis has mentioned.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. Yes mike that's the engine. I am using a fibre washer it looks as if the thread in the endcap has gone.

I'd try a new level plug as it's just as likely (in fact more likely) that it's the plug's thread that's wasted rather than the end cap!

hi there, i,ll post some tomoro, had a hecticweekend doing equality and diversity training. for any one thats interested, if you remember i was looking for a 1/8inch flywheel for my minor 2. good news i managed to aquire one of fleabay earlier. flywheel, crankshaft and boiler band for £10.50. a result i think.
