I have heard some horror stories about MSS build quality . . .

At the moment the MSS locos the better loco (more run in) I found the build quality quite good on it.
Whearas on the Mamod the quality wasnt as good as on some Mamods. Probally one of the kast Mamod locos produced. The quality all went downhill after a few years of leving Malins... I MEAN LOOK AT IT NOW

Current build quality is passable, some of the design leaves something to be desired Jim!

Yes the design is terrible on some bits. My grandad being an engineer notices things like that, and its starting to rub off on to me-i can see a shabby job when i see one
When rebuilding my SL1 we re-designed the front reversing block steam pipes. The origional had O-rings that were a real pain and often leaked we disposed of that and soldered in an exhaust pip and a union that connects up to the regulator in the bad that we made Much simpler and less prone to leaking systemr
