Paint on Mamod boilers?

Does the paint on the visible part of the Mamod TE1a boiler need to be heat resistant?

Sort of Jim, although I find after a period of time new paint will harden quite well.

I have a 1967 SR1a which I full restored last year (Using the word restored in the correct sense - ie the engine was returned to the way it left the factory), anyway I have not steamed it yet as I wanted the paint to harden, its had about a year now, soooo Im thinking of steaming it. I used Forest Classics specially mixed apple green paint!

Would baking it harden it?

Try it, what sort of paint have you used, spray, hand applied pot paint . . . .?

If you do bake it - a low oven setting and time will help, check the paint at regular intervals - suck it and see approach. Maybe try it out on a small piece of metal/brass.

It will be spray paint Wink

THIS IS THE '67 SR1a I MIGHT STEAM . . .

NICE! Shocked

Now do I blacken the paint in the firebox area? Laughing

here . . .

This has had a year to harden naturally Jim, but the oven approach may work. In the end all paint is going to suffer when a flame is applied to it . . .  Sad

This was the stuff I used . . .

It aint to bad Mike, apple green is the best, I much prefer it to the darker brunswick green . . .
