Newbie

Hi all, im pretty new to this, unlike my dad who is a steam fanatic. however i have decided to take the plunge and my dad has given me 2 engines to play with, one of unknown origin altho in good condition and a good little runner. the other a handbuilt model by my dad that needs a good clean. My third is a mamod minor 2 off good old ebay, but it has a minor one flywheel on. having spoken to people in the know, its a rarer model that runs a 1/8inch shaft, but still should have a bigger flywheel. If anyone knows anything bout this please let me know.

Hi Mike, sure i,ll post a few pics of it when i,ve finished with the brasso. it was the first of many he,s built over the years, its approx 40yr old.
he,s a real veteren of these things, and very protective of them almost to the point where he hides them away nowadays, altho he used to show them at local steam rallies many years ago.

Welcome Rich. I'm sure our resident Mamod Guru will have something to say about your Minor, but he's doing a bit of riverboating at the moment!

hi mike, i was led to believe the mm2 has a 3/16 shaft as opposed to the 1/8 shaft on mine and the mm1. any idea where i can get an mm2 flywheel with a 1/8 hole in it?

Ask on here first, beware as the earlier Mamods say from the 1950s had small diameter crankshafts. If its the later thicker type, the flywheels are readily available from ebay or dealers, they are about £7.
