Not really sure what it is. It arrived this morning and was love at first sight. I spent a very enjoyable morning cleaning it up and lubricating.
It was very tight but, I found that this was due to old dried oil. Because it has a rather small flywheel, it took a while to get it started. Lots of water, oil and spluttering, but it finally fired up.
The boiler is interesting. It has pipes running below it with the burner fitting below the pipes. It is very solidly built with a hexagonal safety valve I have not seen before. No water level gauge, so I have to be careful.
The engine itself is very well made. Dual reciprocating pistons in a V configuration, with a control lever (probably for RC) on the top which directs steam to the two cylinders giving stop in the middle and then forward or reverse on either side. It also controls the speed of the engine.

Definatley scratchbuilt. A freind of mine gave me an engine unit he made to the same design as the engine in it.
Very very nice!

This steam plant was designed by Peter Arnott and was serialised in Model Boats in the late 80s or early 90s he then built a v4. hope this helps

Are you going to make a hull for it

just thought you maybe interested PeterArnott designed a steam launch for this engine and after racking the brain cell i found the drawing on my hobbystore.com via the model engineer web site the boat was called Steam Launch Swallow and the plan number is mm1421 and shows a pic so you will be able to see the completed model . Hope this helps
