New lathe!

I was at the Midlands Model Engineering show today and got chatting to a freind of mine. I expressed my interest in building something a bit bigger (a 1/3 scale traction engine) and he said "I have something I think you will need"...

It's an IXL gap bed lathe. It is 3' between centres and when running in the gap a 18" diameter, big enough for every bit that needs machining on the engine. It's complete with 3 and 4 jaw chucks, faceplates, vices and sets of gears for the screw cutting attachment. And best of all...

It's free! Very Happy

Just got to borrow a trailer and go pick it up.

The chap has also offered to let me borrow a set of plans for the engine and the jigs he made to make bits of it! Very Happy

Where are you going to fit that Jim?

Contacts, contacts. They say it's not what you know, it's who you know (actually I think it's an even mix that's important!).

If I lived any nearer I'd help with the move - you can hire trailers of course. Anyway good luck and strike while the iron's hot - go get it!

Thanks for the comments guys! Very Happy

Mike, I am not sure where it is going to fit yet, but I can clear out space in the workshop for it. We have an old oil bath washing thing that hasn't been used for years which takes up a lot of space...

Stephen, thanks for the offer but as you say, a bit out of your way Smile  I shall ring him later and find out what it ways so I can see if I can borrow a van or trailer from a freind Smile
