New here!Hello!
I'm new to the forum.
I am the proud owner of an old steam engine that used to be my father's. He cannot recall the maker of this engine, so I am hoping that you good people could help me.
It is small and has a green platform on the bottom, and has a gold cylinder that one puts water in. It has a smaller cylinder with a piston in it that runs through the black mount on which the gold cylinder sits.
I eagerly await the responce you good fellows can offer!
Many thanks in advance

HI and welcome to the forum.
The steam engine that you describe sounds very much like an engine that was made by Signalling Equipment Limited (SEL). They made a range of steam engine under their own name and also under the Merit badge after the war and into the 1960's. Yours having a black engine mount would be the Model 1540, the largest single cylinder engine in the range.
I'm sure some one can post a picture of the range for you

Hi Trog and a warm welcome to Freesteam!
As MFSteam has already correctly suggested, it appears you are describing an engine produced by Signalling Equipment Limited, probably an SEL 1520 Minor or SEL 1530 Junior
You can see the full range of SEL steam engines in this thread:
http://freesteammamod.myfreeforum.org/about811.html
Take a look and see if you can recognise one like yours from the photos in that thread.

Glad we were able to help, Trog
There should actually be an identification plate on the closed end of the firebox, but these were often removed for some reason
You can see why they are sometimes wrongly referred to as ESL

Oh, yes! That is exactly like mine!
Thankyou very much!

Welcome Trog, SEL's are one of my favourite makers. Quirky little engines, with, quite innovative with their bakelite engine frames.

Yes I must agree. Mine has gream charm for such a small unit!
