My ME1 Needs a BoatCan anyone help me with this?
I had an ME1 arrive, and I'd like to build a boat or find a boat suitable for it. I know it won't be a powerful runner and the run times will be short. The ME3 would probably be better, but I like this engine, and it would look much better if it was in a boat.
I ran it today, and found after running it on 2 burner fills, the boiler was almost empty.
Here's some pics of the run:
And videos,
This was the 1st run in probably a few years, as you can see, it didn't run the best:
I re-filled the burner and got a much better run out of the engine:

A fairly early example. They need plenty of oil, I take the piston out on mine and fill the cylinder. The oiler helps but really they need a displacement lubricator. Nice, rare item to own.

I have an ME1 in a very simple flat bottomed hull made from plywood. It doesn't look too pretty but chugs along OK
She's the red and white one on the right. Sorry about the photo quality, it was taken at Tilford last year and it's snowing outside.
If you fancy building one I can crawl up into the attic and bring her down for a photoshoot for detail but it's basically a flat , boat shaped bottom with a square stern and two vertical sides bent to fit the bottom. A few cross members and fillets and Bob's your Uncle.

One possibility, Nick, might be the Hobbies "Arrow". Plans are available from - http://www.alwayshobbies.com/Stor...bies-Arrow$6-Steam-Powered-Launch

Thanks for the picture Fred! Very nice collection.
It looks like that will be an easy style to build, so I may try it soon.

When it arrives.........meanwhile a few shots of Athena to show the very simple construction.
Incidentally the sides appear to be thin wood strip rather than ply as I originally thought. The stern is a solid block of wood. Simple but takes up a lot of useful space for servos etc so for the moment we are a misguided missile.
Hope this helps. I look forward to seeing a small fleet of clones at STIA2010

Fred, just revisited this thread, on the ME1 is the stern tube been painted or is it 'original Mamod' paint!?
