Nicely detailed unit. I like looking at these engine, the technical sophistication is greater than the stuff I like, but fascinating none the less. More models than steam toys and I mean that in the nicest way.

Thanks Mike! I do love these models and take that as a compliment Sometimes the line between toy and model is very thin

And now the boat that will flood Mooses keyboard area...
...a BASSET LOWKE STREAMLINIER!!!!! (Well most of it)
Bought the hull ages ago after being told to by a model boat collector. We were told by many BL experts that we would have no chance finding an engine or boiler...then what came up on ebay but an engine unit. I won that for around £40...was a few years ago now. The engine is down in the workshop in the engine boxes so couldnt get it for photo easily.
Then all i needed was boiler-again NO CHANCE! What popped up on ebay US but a boiler for one of these which i won for £73
So here she is in all her 'glory'!
Boiler needs assembling

It might be rare because it is not very good looking

You must have one hell of a paper round to afford all your engines
Didnt one of those boiler and alloy cover finish on uk ebay yesterday ?

Life would be dull if we all liked the same things, for me I dont think you can beat the Post War Luton Bowman Boats.

And last but not least an electric boat. My great grandad made this for my grandad when he was a lad...infact he made them for all the cousins and my grandads is the only one left!
I'ts made out of all sorts-model railway tracks, nails etc etc
The motor he made himself-runs beautifuly almost 70 years later
This switch...
...is operated when this is screwed down

That Pioneer is great, dont do anything with it, it looks great as it is.
I left a similar condition Peggy on a stall last year for the same money, I have regretted it ever since. Mind you I had enough chances at it as it was still there on Sunday. Another one to add to the list of "should haves"

A little snippet of information that might explain why the BL is so rare. It cost 55 shillings when it was new which is a huge amount of money

When was it new Jim?]
In 1937 a Mersey Tripple was 50s,
in 1931 a Seahawk was 44s and
in 1929 a Pioneer was 30s
|
steamyjim

Sorry. It was £55 The engine was £27 on its own

You could buy a house for that, when was it made? How big is it?

I'm not sure how old is it...its just over 3' long i think

Wow, its hardly a scale model and not much bigger than the Pioneer. I can understand the engine unit being a bit more than the average toy, much like Stuart Turner but £55? Looks 1930's to me
