Body filler for the dents I couldnt beat out with a hamer.
Spokesmann

Very interesting indeed!

A lot of work went into making the Meteor/Conqueror. Probably why Malins never made any money on them!

Started painting.
Several coats of primer.

Finaly stating to get a bit of colour Smile

The end is in site.
This has been probably the longest clean up to date for me.
Arrow did take longer to make though.

The last of the painting done.
Ready for final assembly.

Hi Phantom and WWelcome, its nice to see you decided to post here Very Happy

The Meteor is a fine boat and they sail really well, they sound like mopeds Laughing . You look like you have done a very nice referb on it. When you sit it on some water dont be surprised if it lists over to one side, you need to blance them with some lead weights.

The final result.

I am happy with it Very Happy

Spokesmann

That will look superb when re-assembled. Smile
John Chapman

A superb job Phantom, congratulations.  Very Happy
Mamod Collector

Yes that looks superb, was it off ebay
Phantom

Meteor

I had to know ?

It didnt fall over without lead
Phantom

Meteor

It did leak though until I nipped up the engine screws Embarassed
MFSteam

did it list over to one side?

they look great on the water, this is my one on its maiden voyage a couple of months ago after a full restoration

Phantom

Meteor

suprisingly no
It just floated bolt upright and returned when I tried to force it over.
To be honest I was expecting a list to one side or the other, but it didnt.
When I did the same to the Arrow it listed that badly it would have sunk without the addition of a lot of lead.
Phantom

Meteor

Do they go as good as they look.
I havent had a chance to try mine yet.
MFSteam

Its by far and away my best runner on the water. It creates quite a bow wave at full speed. The tin hull makes the engine sound like a moped, you can tell if there is a Meteor on the pond just by the sound it makes.

One word of warning though, watch the water level in the boiler. a good friend of mine who runs Meteors regularly told me to overfill the boiler and slightly under fill the burner. It is a close thing as to which runs out first, the meths or the water Shocked . Best to air on the side of caution
Phantom

Meteor

Your Meteor looks brilliant in that photo  Very Happy
going to have to try mine as soon as the paint has had a chance to harden off a bit more.
MFSteam

Hopefully I will be at the pond again this Sunday for another play with it. There were two sailing last time, it may well be three this time q42
Phantom

Meteor

I dont think I have anyware near me like that  Sad
I have been using the local res' to sail the Arrow.
Its very quiet, not even anglers to disturb  Very Happy
Three Meteor,s would probably sound really good as they go across the water.

I had every intention of taking a vid on the last outing. All was well with the first run until disaster struck, it ran out of water. I was being careful by under filling the burner but it still happened. I've now got a repair job on my hands, it has melted the solder on the steam pipe and the end cap has more or less fallen off
Crying or Very sad

One for the winter months
Spokesmann

Sorry to hear that. Would it be better to silver solder it?
MFSteam

I could do but its not really that easy to silver solder over soft solder, you have to remove all the soft solder. There is always a slight danger that you do more damage when getting the old brass red hot.

Fair point. It must generate a lot of heat inside a metal hulled closed space. Is it a Meter 'design fault'?

I think in as much as either the burner resovoir is to big or the boiler is to small for the burner, it is a design fault.

What a fantastic resto Ian.  I'm sure you'll have her back in the water soon Wink
