Meccano SP3 Steam engineGreetings one and all.
Ive had this Meccano engine for some time now. Its been sat in my cupboard for the past few years gathering dust. You can even see what I paid for it. I have finally plucked up the courage to show my son how it works and well it didn't. The boiler seems to leak where the bolt is screwed at the top, same applies to the whistler.
It gathers momentum for about 10 seconds then grinds to a halt.

Hi Steve
A big welcome to the forum. You will find we are a friendly bunch here.
Sounds to me like you just need to replace the fibre washers under the whistle and safety valve. a simple fix.

Welcome to the forum Steve
That engine is in fantastic condition, as is the box.
I'm sure MF is correct, just new fibre washers required to seal the joints up & she'll run like a dream. Do you have any other engines

A very crisp example Steve.
As the chaps say - a set of new washers should do the trick. Make sure the whistle is screwed down well too, but not over-tightened. The safety valve should be just finger tight.
Welcome to Freesteam.

Welcome to Freesteam Steve
Your SP3 looks like its never been fired
Make sure you oil everything up that should make the run a little smoother

Welcome aboard Steve, that's a very nice SP3 you have there shouldn't take much to get it going.

Hi Steve and welcome,
It's nice to see one of these in this condition , they tend to rust. When they do go, they go very very well.
Run it in and it will be great
Good luck
