ME1Spurred into action by Mike's two "Arrow" threads I've dug out the ME1 engine that has been lurking at the back of the shed for rather too long. Here is a photo of it as it stands at the moment -
The fire box and boiler shroud are quite badly rusted, in fact one end of the boiler securing strap has rusted away The base has some rust that has been over painted, so that needs seeing to. Other than that it is not in too bad a state.
I am under the impression it is a fairly early example as it has the oiler - Mamod experts please help with a date if possible.

Quite early John indeed. The oiler varied form this design (with screw top) to the 'Rotherham' type with a flip top, used on my ME2. I cant give an exact date as to when oilers where dropped and just a bare 'hole' left, but I would hazard a guess sometime in the 1960s... The very earliest examples had a barrel cylinder. Id say your was most definately from the early mid 1960s. A decal would help dating a bit more. Has a non-standard 3-blade prop too. Needs a crank disc? That should come up well and will be an ideal power plant for an Arrow!

Curious, Athene has the flip top Rotherham oiler but an earlier cylinder..Machined flat top rather than domed.
I've not seen the screw down version before.

The ME1 becasue it lasted longer can be found with the Rotherhmas type oiler cup and the later brass screw top version, my ME2 has a Rotherhams type, I dont recall seeing one with the brass type oiler - Im assuming the earliest examples had the Rotherhmas oiler. Forged con rod stems are always a sign of 50s and early 60s.
