Maybe of interestAt the above exhibtion yesterday, a Meccano 1912 engine was steamed. It is not often that these engines are seen in steam, you can watch on this video.

Unfortuantely this engine does not belong to me, but I was given the oppoertunity of steaming it. Neither did I take this video, which was carried out by Roland.

Hang on just a cotton-picking minute!
Either I've been very mislead over the past years or I've finally gone Ga-Ga, but that's never a Meccano engine surely.
I'm only aware of the early vertical boilered type (an example of which was recently converted into solid gold via a certain auction site), and the later Mamod made horizontal.
The one in the video looks more like a Bing!
Would someone kindly explain please!

It is a very rare 1914 Meccano steam engine Steve
The first ones where indeed made by Bing and also badged Bing
This was one of mine the first Bing types
This is a original advert for the 1914 Meccano steam engine
This artical appeared in the Constructor quaterly magazine although the engine has been messed about with
And last but not least this is what a absolutly mint Meccano one looks like
They do appear on ebay one sold earlier this year
So keep your eyes pealed Steve

When you're trading, clear Identification is everything. I've noticed that, generally speaking, the candlestick engines aren't fetching very high prices at the moment. If you like these engines now could be a good time!
Thanks for the info Mike. As a matter of further interest, when was Meccano first introduced?

The steam engine was introduced in 1914 when the factory moved to Binns road
It probably only lasted a couple of years due to its very high price
A second steam engine with vertical boiler was introduced in 1929
These are a bit more common, I,ve owned about eight of these
(Only got one left now though)
