It was in fair condition the asking price was £47 was tempted to buy it would it been a good price ?

Do you mean an SE3 as shown top left here?
Or perhaps a newer style SP5? (which can come without the dynamo)
or a slightly older one?

Ah, the SE3 - a popular and powerful engine.
Prices tend to vary madly on ebay from as low as about £45 inc p+p on a bad day to £100 inc p+p on a good day.
I think £47 would indeed have been a good buy dependant on condition of course, even more so if it had it's original brass burner and/or box. The ones with the earlier turn brass whistle are also more appealing (imho).

Couldn't see too much of the burner but thinking back it was pale green, how should it look ? May be back that way in a couple of weeks so if still there may get it.
Thanks for the help guy's

That doesn't sound right.
I think they were always a brass vapouriser of varying lengths and varying handle designs/colours (white, red, black, etc)
Here's mine from a 1961 SE3
The body is 3 1/2" long (there was a longer version) x 1" wide x 7/8" high
The very last SE3 produced (which had a sight glass ilo overflow plug) came with a typical mamod solid fuel tray (but a bit longer than usual)
