Mamod - the printed word instantly recognisable

The familiar Mamod logos has appeared in countless ways over the years, here are some versions to help you date your boxes and leaflets. Note minor in some of the variations.

Solid fuel from 1976-90s


Not strictly printed a roller from c1961


An oil can from c1979-85


Blue decal from c1948-53




Red oval decal from c1953-58


Tool packaging c1957-79






White lable tool box, c1950-57 two colours




ME1 from c1958 (same throught its life)

The logo in its earliest form, derived from the Hobbies logo


The basic logo with its extended M or D has been an instantly recognised design element since the end of the WW2.

Leaflets from mid 1960s to early 1970s - two colours throughout.

The decal for the SE4 exhibits some design variations from the one above. Colour is the main difference, but there are some slight alterations in the M and d.

Not Mamod, but a comparison for Nicks early mamod.
I have a crisper hobbies decal, but can't find a decent pic at the moment.

The Hobbies logo is relevant  Mike! it clearly shows how the Mamod logo was arrived at!  Cunning part on GM perhaps? I suppose these days it would be considered too close for comfort!

I couldn't believe how much of a blue color is in the lettering.

Were they originally white and have turned that color over the years?

Or does the red base underneath give it that effect?

decals are normally printed using opaque inks, so it would be the colour.
