One of Mamods best recent efforts... well worth the effort in refurbishing. This version is vastly superior to the 'new' SP5. I sold mine (to Jim) last year, Im no fan of the new ones at all, this one though was a properly designed and thought out Malins engine. Onyl 10,000 or so made untial 1985.

Coming on nicely - what are your plans for the rusty chrome? At least the chimney's easily obtained still!

A bit more progress I have done the fire box the chrome was so bad there was no way to bring it back.

Shame about the firebox sides, maybe wait for a beater to come up on ebay? thing is the SP2 and Sp4 use the same side panels so they are more common. Rechroming may be expensive too. Will that p;aint to up to the heat? These engines do get very hot since the fuel tablets are totally enclosed.

Sorry just saying the SP5 panels are longer and the SP2 and SP4 are the same size! - sorry for the misleading info, you could use two lots of old SP4 or Sp2 ones, these may still be available as spares....

I hope it will cope it is vht paint temperatures up to 1110°F, 600°C  I have had no problems with the black gloss so see how this silver paint copes  8)
