Mamod railway wagonsI wonder if somebody would be kind enough to measure a Mamod flat wagon for me. I'm interested to know how long and how wide they are.

My open wagon (I believe the chassis are common) measures:
L: 160mm over buffers

Hope that helps, John

I can help.
The flat bit (not including buffers) is 142 x 79mm.
I wouldn't buy new ones though, they are rather expensive for what they are.

Must have hit the send button together Simon. Yep my flat one is 160mm over the buffers as well.

Thanks for that Gents.
So translated into measurements I understand approx five and a half inches by three inches. Convert that into feet at 1 inch to the foot scale and it's 5 foot 6 by 3 feet. Heywood tops wagons were 6 foot by 3 foot so not that far out.
Hmm! food for thought

A garden railway, based on the 15 inch gauge lines at Duffield Bank and Eaton Hall, with maybe a bit of Fairborne Railway thrown in. Early days yet but I will keep everybody posted.

Sounds interesting indeed! I wish I had the space for a garden railway.

You don't need much space, I just use a short loop of mamod track on a brick and mortar base...
During construction...
In use...

Chris my back garden/courtyard is domitaed by big plants - most of mine would need to be raised with lift out viaducts.

Chris, that's a super little line you have built. It's about the size I am going to able to have. Thanks for posting the photo and videos - food for thought
