Living for the weekendMy stock will be getting its first proper run out on Sunday, all being well, and here I plan to show you what I do to prepare everything to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible.
So far, I have fitted my Roundhouse loco 'Peaslake' with AnDel pin and link couplings as these look better than the supplied centre buffers in my opinion.
Unfortunately, a small gap is present above and below the coupling (hardly noticeable from normal operating distance) and due to no suitable hole, they are stuck on with very high strength superglue. Time will tell to see if this lasts...
A chain is in there as it was easier to slot in for this pic! I'll take another one with the actual link in place at a later date.
More tomorrow as it is my day off!

That'll be interesting Si - superglue's strongest in tension, but we'll see!

Hopefully it won't fail on me on the day, Stephen!
I've finished packing up the bits and pieces for Sunday.
First up is my much prized Roundhouse loco. She needed a dust down, so a wipe with the duster (as supplied with the loco!) had that job done. I don't bother polishing the brass, as I prefer my locos to have a working feel and look to them.
Next, I rolled her into a plastic bag
and placed and wrapped around her some large bubble wrap in her box.
Next I found a suitable tin and several small re-sealable bags for the coupling chains and buffers (just in case!)
I also labelled up the AA batteries for the receiver in my Roundhouse loco, and found an unused battery case for them.
Next came the prospect of fitting all the rolling stock I will be taking into one box. The box my Brandbright coach arrived in was perfect, and after cutting up some card partitions I was able to fit it all in.
You'll also notice the magnetic pick up tool and self gripping tweezers I use for coupling up the stock.
Then, time to pack all the stock into one suitable box. The skip wagon boxes fit perfectly in the bottom of this box, so no problems there.
Then everything was put on top of these. A little jiggery pokery is still needed to fit everything in so that the tops can close.
Closest to the camera is the 2.4GHz transmitter for my Roundhouse loco, in case you were wondering! I love the system, no interference whatsoever.
Next, I had to pack up the 'consumables'. I always put these in a seperate box in case something spills or ignites (in the extreme) so damage isn't inflicted on my stock.
I will be taking pics on Sunday, and video all being well, so I'll be posting those here

After setting up all of my stock, I ran my Mamod SL2 as I didn't have much gas to run 'Peaslake'. She needs a bit of fettling, as she doesn't seem to hold her pressure very well. She needs even more work, as I have done something I would never imagine I would do. Run a loco dry I need to take her to bits now and re-solder.
As time went by, and the opening time of the open day grew closer I was worried by the absence of the other members who use the table top railway. Turns out it was just myself on the railway! Oh well, at least it gave me more room to work with and try things out such as the new rolling stock.
Luckily, Andy and Mike turned up with Andy's Edrig and Bertie. So I wasn't alone and playing a one man band.
See if you spot something which occured during the course of the day in the pics...
Here's some pics:
'Peaslake' awaits the off with her first steaming for several months.
Two extremes of the market.
'Peaslake' passes the Edrig with a long rake of skips (which made an impressive clatter as they rolled along).
Brothers in... errr... valve gear linkages?
This is the only picture I managed of the Bertie (very nice it is to.)
And here is my favourite shot from the day.
Here's the video, my Roundhouse loco features prominently!

The coupling fell off your Katie, shouldn't be too hard to fit that coupling permanently.
Great pics.

Fantastic images and set up chaps. Glad the weather stayed well for you. I almost felt I was looking at the real thing for a moment, then saw the screw driver in the foreground! Excellent work.

Thanks all for the nice comments.
I enjoyed it, a chance to run some trains for once! Spurred me on to get something done about my own line now...

Good news! The Dacia Sandero... Oh, no wait...
I mean Will and I have been chatting on MSN and it turns out I didn't run the SL2 dry. Will explained that the boilers are deep drawn from tube, and where the loco is leaking from there isn't a solder join. Turns out the gauge glass seal has gone.
This makes sense, as I remember the smell of burning rubber when I thought I ran it dry! Doesn't matter now, as I've sold on the SL2...

I really enjoyed all that - thanks Si (and friends).

Great pics Si - it certainly looked like a great day. I'm sorry to have missed it
"Sold on the SL2" ???? Has it gone, before we could run it with my SL2? ?

Thanks once again all for the comments
I've just bought a 'coupling adapter' from AnDel so I can refit the pin and link coupling that came off my Roundhouse loco.
I'm going to stick the adapter behind the buffer beam, then centre up the buffer so it matches up with the one on the Brandbright coach then drill through and bolt it in place.
This will be done for the other coupling when/if that one comes off to
