That's a very nice, and very interesting, addition to the collection
However, I think that as it has the CK mark on the boiler it was probably originally sold under the C K Matsutoko name.

Indeed, it was Matsutoko who built the engines sold by Crescent Toys but they also sold a range of stationary engines, marine engines and steam boats under their own name. As I understand it the Crescent engines were not marked "Made in Japan", mine certainly isn't. The engines they sold under their own name were generally marked "Made in Japan" and had their trade mark which was CK in a diamond.

i see, so as it has the CK in diamond are we saying that it was sold by the Matsutoko company themselves and not sold by the crescent company then?

That's one hell of a find Jay. I'll bet there aren't many about - although I'm sure the toy steamboaties will be able to tell us more (when they read this).
The BIG problem is the burner - that filler/vent/handle - dangerous stuff! A thought has occurred to me though. Dream Steam do a small silicon rubber bung for the meths burner in a Mamod/MSS loco. This has a tiny vent hole and may fit the CK/Crescent handle, rendering it much safer to use. The item can be viewed here: http://www.dream-steam.com/upgrade_parts.html
A quick email to Dream Steam will establish the exact size I'm sure.
Back to the boat though - I'd be interesting to know how CK imported to the UK and other countries. Your boat may well have come via the States (with a name like that?). Crescent was a toy maker based in Cwmbran, South Wales and whist they may already have had a relationship with CK, their fling with toy steam was a short lived one as I understand it. Crescent had their own brand and it's unlikely that they would have sold other branded products alongside their own.
I reckon you've got a very rare item there Jay.
